Mr. Douglas Chan is Deputy Executive Chairman of HKAIIA and chairs its Fintech Sub-Committee. He is the Founder and Chairman of eTrading Group (8036.HK), a fintech pioneer with over 30 years of experience in securities technology and quantitative investment on Wall Street and Hong Kong.
About Douglas Chan
Mr. Douglas Chan is the Executive Director, Founder and Chairman of eTrading Group (8036.HK), and founder of Wise Securities Limited. He is responsible for formulating and overseeing the Group's overall strategic planning and R&D. Mr. Chan is the designer of the Group's global order management system and the principal researcher in quantitative investment. He has over 30 years of experience in the securities and derivatives industry in the United States and Hong Kong. He is a first-generation financial network computing technologist, with over 30 years of experience in ARPANET and Internet technologies, and a first-generation quantitative investor with over 30 years of experience in the financial industry.
From 1987 to 1989, he served as Vice President of Advanced Technology at The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc., introducing networked computing environments to widespread use on Wall Street. From 1989 to 1991, as Systems Development Manager at Salomon Brothers, he developed a distributed computing-based fixed income analytics system in the late 1980s. He later joined the quantitative strategy research group originally founded by Fischer Black (co-creator of the Black-Scholes option pricing model, which won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1997).
Mr. Chan served as a member of the Hong Kong Exchanges Derivatives Market Consultative Panel from 2009 to 2015. He was awarded the Hong Kong Computer Society's Outstanding IT Practitioner Award 2008 – Outstanding IT Professional Excellence Award in 2009. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1985.
In community service and industry development, Mr. Chan has held numerous voluntary positions. He served as a member of the HKEx Derivatives Market Consultative Panel from 2009 to 2015, and has been a member of the City University of Hong Kong Business Leaders Association Steering Committee since 2018. He served as District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 303 (China, Hong Kong & Macau) for 2017-18, leading over 4,000 Lions members in the region.
